On a late winter day in 1908, after studying the largest diamond ever mined – The Cullinan, famed diamond cutter Joseph Asscher struck a perfect blow cleaving the massive 3,106 karat stone into the what would come to be nine of the most important diamonds in the world… and as legend has it, promptly fainted.
